Description

  • David de Coninck
  • Hounds in a wooded landscape, game on the floor around them; A peacock and other fowl around a fountain
  • a pair, both oil on canvas, in elaborate carved and gilt wood English 18th-century frames

Provenance

Private collection, England, 1969.

Condition

Both canvases have been relined. The surfaces are relatively clean, and the varnish is slightly discoloured. There is a restored tear to the upper right of the painting with the fowl, of 9 by 6 centimetres. The painting with the spaniels and the game has no major damages. Under ultraviolet inspection a layer of uneven varnish is revealed in each. Other than the aforementioned tear and the uneven varnish, there are almost no retouchings and both paintings are in extremely good condition. Both are offered in carved and gilt wood frames, one is in very good condition, the other has losses to all margins.
