Condition
The canvas has an old and sound relining. The painting is dirty and its varnish layer yellowed. The paint surface appears to be in very good overall condition. There are scattered minor discoloured localised retouchings visible to the naked eye. Inspection under ultra violet light confirms the aforementioned retouchings mostly concentrated in the lower margin. In very good overall condition.
Offered in a later ebonised wood frame with ripple mouldings and a gilt sight edge.

Sumowski dates the present portrait to 1654/55 and notes similarities with portraits by Flinck in the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and in the collection of Graf van Rechteren-Limpurg.1
