Description
- Jan de Baen
- Portrait of a lady, standing three-quarter length, wearing a black dress and pearls
- oil on canvas, unlined
Provenance
H.J. van Gelderen, from whom bought after his death by the father of the present owners, by 1991.
Condition
The canvas in unlined, with a thin wax coating on the reverse. The paint surface is dirty, the varnish somewhat discoloured. No major damages are visible and the picture appears to be in nice untouched overall condition, with even the darker tones well preserved. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals a varnish that fluoresces very unevenly. There are only a handful of retouchings to small losses, for example three in the dark tones of the upper left corner - some tiny untouched losses in the centre of her bodice. In good overall condition.
Offered in a carved and gesso gilt frame in fair condition.
