Description
- Peter Binoit
- Still life of flowers, including tulips and roses, in a stone urn on a ledge
- oil on oak panel
Condition
The panel is cradled and appears to be constructed of two square-shaped panels and a vertical rectangular panel on the right-hand side, approx. 6 cm. in width. The two square panels both have old horizontal splits, one approx. 4 cm. from the upper margin, another running across the centre of the vase, and a third, approx. 4cm. from the lower margin. There is a pinprick loss just to the left of the pink flowers on the table (visible in the catalogue illustration). The paint surface is relatively dirty and the varnish is uneven. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals retouching to the aforementioned joins and old splits, throughout the right-hand section of the panel, in the table, centre left, and along the lower margin. There is some minor strengthening to the petals of some of the flowers. Offered in an ebonised Dutch style frame with ripple moulding with some losses.
