Description

  • Willem Wissing
  • Portrait of a lady, traditionally identified as Mary 'Moll' Davis, three-quarter-length, seated in a park landscape with a dog on her lap
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The canvas has a firm lining and a clear and only slightly discoloured varnish. There are no major damages visible to the naked eye. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals a somewhat uneven and opaque varnish and some minor scattered areas of localised retouching and strengthening but no major restorations. The most concentrated areas of retouching are along her right collar bone, in the sitters hair, particularly to the right of her profile, and some in the dark tones of the drapery but otherwise there's not much intervention. In overall good condition. Offered in a gilt carved wood frame in good condition.
