Description

  • A portable triptych showing the Madonna and Child enthroned with saints, with the Annunciation and Crucifixion depicted on the wings
  • oil on panel, gold ground, pointed tops

Provenance

Anonymous sale, The Hague, Venduehuis der Notarissen, 11 November 2015, lot 314 (as after Tommaso del Mazza).

Condition

The following condition report is provided by Henry Gentle, who is an external specialist and not an employee of Sotheby's: There is evidence of past worm infestation to the reverse of the central panel and the wings. The paint to the reverse side of the wings is unstable . The hinges to the right hand wing have been replaced. The paint layer to the central panel and wings is very slightly raised but is stable with only minor pin prick losses visible. The paint surface is covered in a layer of surface dirt and discoloured varnish and it's removal would improve the overall tonality. The panel is well preserved with the paint surface in good original condition and fine details intact. There are chipped losses to the integral frame.
