Condition

The canvas has been relined. The surface is slightly unclean and the varnish has some discolouration. There are a small number of light abrasions to the surface around Hope's drapery. An old restored diagonal scratch approximately 10 cm long, left of the anchor, is visible to the naked eye. There is some serious damage in the lower right corner which has resulted in the loss paint and some canvas. Under ultra violet inspection there is a milky varnish. There is some old spot retouching in the drapery, and to the restored diagonal scratch. There is also some in the foliage on her proper right and between her and the anchor. The work is offered in a carved and gilt wood frame.
