The canvas has been relined. There is a 1 cm. vertical scratch in the upper left. There is a small hole through the canvas in the owl's proper left wing. There are two 30 cm. vertical scratches, 5 cm. in from each margin. There is a small loss at the bottom of the scratch on the left. The paint surface is relatively clean and the varnish is discoloured. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals an old and uneven varnish, with some old scattered retouching throughout, in particular to the margins and background.
