Condition

In overall good condition. The canvas has a very firm lining, the paint surface is relatively clean and the varnish is only slightly discoloured. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a recent campaign of restoration, which comprises fine lines of retouching to reduce the appearance of the network of craquelure, most concentrated in the width of the foreground, and in the foliage immediately behind the figures on the left. There are other small retouchings scattered in the sky and in the foliage upper centre, as well as in the lid of the basket, and in the drapery of the central and right-hand figures. There are also retouchings scattered along all four margins. Offered in a carved, gilt and painted wood frame with some losses.
