Description

  • François de Nomé, called Monsù Desiderio
  • A pair of cathedral interiors with figures worshipping
  • a pair, both oil on canvas

Condition

The two canvases are lined, the paint surfaces are relatively clean, but the varnishes are slightly discoloured and dulled. The paintings are in overall good condition. The former: there are a handful of small areas of restoration scattered lower centre and centre left in the columns, just visible to the naked eye. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals tiny scattered retouchings in the darks of the arches on the right-hand side and scattered along the left, right and upper margins. The latter: there is a small retouching just visible to the naked eye, on the far wall visible through the arch on the left. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals tiny retouchings scattered in the decorative wall along the upper margin, and in some of the dark shadows in the central and right-hand arches.
