Condition

Overall the condition of the enamel is good, with some wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. There are losses to the enamel at the four corners, as well as minor areas of loss to the top edge, the right edge, and the left edge at the top. There are two small holes to each corner, as well as small holes to the top and bottom edge. There is some very minor craquelure. There are losses to the counter enamel mirroring those to the enamel, and there are remnants of old paper to the edges on the reverse.

Catalogue Note

A plaque with the same composition, together with a plaque featuring a personification of Air (Aer), was sold at Christie's London, 13 June 2002, lot 150. Probably originally part of a set of plaquettes with personifications of the four elements, a full set, including Earth and Fire (Terra and Ignis), is in the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto (inv. no. 921.8.4-7).
