The Virgin would have worn a crown, which is now lost. There is some stable splitting to the wood consistent with the material, notably open but stable splits to the Virgin's chest and between her legs. There is a darkened varnish to the surface throughout. It is possible that there has been minor recarving, including to he hands and faces. There are oval openings to the chests, which may have contained gemstones or relics. There is a metal hook with string at the back.
