Condition

Overall the condition of the wood is good, with some wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. The figure is carved in sections, and stable joints are visible in areas such as around the shoulders and across the chest, where there may also be some stable splitting. Some of the joints have been stabilised using glue and filling material, notably at the chest, and around the legs. There are a few circular plugs close to these joints, including to the chest and the proper right shoulder. There is wear to the gilding and polychromy, notably to the high points of the hair. Some of the polychrome, such as the skin tones, has probably been refreshed. There is evidence of past worming throughout, and in particular at the back and the arms. The base and the feet are carved separately and are probably later. There are a few losses, in particular around the bottom at the back. There are a few metal mounts at the back as well as a hole between the shoulders. There is some pitting and a split to the glass eyes.
