Description
- Okimono of a Skull with a Coiled Snake and a Frog
- signed: 玉春 (Gyokushun)
- ivory
- Japanese, 19th century
Condition
Overall the condition of the skull is very good, with minor wear and some dirt to the surface consistent with age. There is a loss to the tail of the snake at the bottom where it would have once connected with the lower part that is attached to the underside of the skull, and one of the snake's inlaid eyes is lost. There is some stable splitting to the ivory, consistent with the material, including to the cheekbone on the proper right side. There is some yellowing to the ivory, consistent with the material.
