Catalogue Note

Although nothing is known about the artist of the present vase, the Tuerlinckx, or Thuerelinckx, were a family of wood carvers, turners, and instrument makers, active in the Malines area of the Netherlands. The most prominent members of the family were Jean (1753-1827) and his son Corneille (1783-1855).

The present lot is sold with a bound volume containing some of the plates of L. E. Bergeron's Manuel du Touneur, an instructions manual written for turners in 1816. See plate 42 for a turned wood vase similar to the present lot.
