Condition

Laid down on an old album page. There are some slight stains to the sheets extremities, due in part to old adhesive tape. The drawing itself remains in very fine condition, with only very minor signs of foxing in places. The pen an ink medium remains fresh and vibrant throughout. Sold in a modern giltwood frame.

Catalogue Note

Though the pose of the sleeping Endymion in the present work can be closely compared to that of the same figure in a painting by Ubaldo,1 Prisco Bagni thought that it was in fact created for purely artistic purposes, rather than being a preparatory study for the painting, dating the drawing to the early 1770s.
