Catalogue Note
Very little is known about Ascensio Julia's career. Supposedly Goya's only pupil, his style of drawing is reminiscent of his master's work, where, like Goya, he employs wash to create form. For some additional information that has been recorded about Julia's life see E. Lafuente Ferrari, Antecedentes, Coincidencias e influencias del arte de Goya, Madrid 1947, pp. 152-154.
