Condition

Hinge mounted in two places along the upper edge to a modern mount. There is a very narrow band of minor discolouration to the lower left, bottom and lower right edges, though these do not detract from the overall aesthetic. There are some very minor nicks to the extremities, otherwise in very fine condition throughout, with the medium fresh and vibrant throughout.

Catalogue Note

Nicolas Huet was official painter to the Musée d'Histoire Naturelle et de la Ménagerie of the Empress Josephine, and specialised in painting animals and plants.  Four other fine examples of animals in a landscape setting by Huet were sold at Sotheby's: An Indian Elephant, The Royal Giraffe, A Tiger and A Pomeranian.1
