Condition

Laid down on paper which has in turn been wrapped around a board backing. The sheet has been extensively made up in the lower left and right corners, with a number of other losses and old tear throughout. There is evidence of staining and surface dirt, however the medium remains in reasonably good condition with the image still fairly strong.

The present sheet is a compositional study for Luca Giordano's painting of the same subject, now in the collection at Attingham Park, Shropshire (fig. 1).
