decorated with Chinoiserie motifs, with cream painted interiors

Condition

Lovely quality and generally in good order. Minor chips to edges. Some natural discolouration and surface cracqulure.. Some ingrained dirt. Some minor Chips to japanning.

Catalogue Note

Overtly influenced by Chinese export furniture, these boxes are typical of the painted and varnished pieces that were produced in the North Indian city of Bareilly during the 19th century. Usually decorated in black and gold, the ivory ground of the current lot is uncommon.
