Description

  • Wood, porcelain
  • 156cm. high, 122cm. wide, 87cm. deep;
the superstructure with an hinged flap to the top enclosing a row of pigeon holes, above two cupboard door with corresponding drawers, the desk with a removable velvet panel above two drawers, all inlaid with Japanese porcelain panels and buttons

Provenance

Most probably purchased by Charles Pierrepont, 3rd Earl Manvers for Thoresby Hall circa 1870 during the renovation of the house by Anthony Salvin;
Thence by descent.

Condition

A very attractive piece in good country house condition. One porcelain mount to the top frieze has been restored following a break. Four of the porcelain roundels are lacking and the lacquer decoration is slightly distressed in areas. The back legs with metal bracket supports to the inside which are possibly later. With old marks and scratches throughout commensurate with age and use.
