Condition
The canvas has not been lined. There is a pattern of hairline craquelure throughout (visible in the catalogue illustration) somewhat more pronounced in the face, with a spot of paint loss. Ultra-violet light reveals areas of uneven fluorescence due to old discoloured varnish, small spots of retouching in the right hand, in the lady's chest and in the background in the upper right, some of which are addressing old paint losses. The overall appearance is good and the work is ready to hang.
Presented in decorative gilt frame.
