with triple-flap top, the central section enclosing a mirror and two lidded compartments, the frieze with a leather-lined writing slide and a small fitted ink drawer to the right hand side, with a label to the underside Brynkinalt RM

Provenance

Most probably purchased by Arthur Hill-Trevor, 3rd Viscount Dungannon (1798 – 1862) for 3, Grafton Street, London;
Moved to Brynkinalt Hall, Denbighshire following his death and thence by descent.

Condition

This piece is in reasonable condition, with overall marks and scratches consistent with age and use. The top has a small loss to the marquetry inlay of the central panel, which also displays copious marks. The left panel with one horizontal construction crack and two small losses to the veneer. The mirror with some foxing to silver, its compartment with some marks to the varnish. There is one loss circa 7cm. long to the right compartment border. The writing slide is in good condition with one tear to the leather surface; its knob however is lose and in need of some attention. The left side with one shrinking crack, the right side with one small loss to the veneer. The back frieze with overall light discolouration. There are two losses to the veneer of the front-right leg, as visible on the catalogue photograph. The sabots tarnished.
