Catalogue Note
A very similar pair of candle stands to the present lot with shafts formed from cherubic figures that were supplied for Holyrood Palace are illustrated in R. Edwards, The Dictionary of English Furniture, 1954, rev. ed, vol. III, p.147, fig 6. The simulated porphyry bases on this pair of torcheres were probably added during Lady Dungannon's refurbishments of Brynkinalt in the early 19th century.
