Description
- Pine, poplar, upholstery, fabric
- 90cm. high; 2ft. 11in.
each with a shaped crest-rail above a pierced back and padded seat, on fluted tapering front legs and rear sabre legs; one chair with inventory label Privat-Eigentum v. W. [von Württemberg], no. 2936 and 2937, both chairs with label 'O.N.'
Provenance
Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna of Russia (1822–1892), later Queen Olga of Württemberg, a gift from her father Tsar Nicolas I (1796-1855) on occasion of her marriage to Crown Prince Karl Friedrich Alexander of Württemberg (1823-1891) in 1846.
Condition
These light chairs are in reasonably good condition, with minor marks and scratches consistent with age and use, and with hairline joint cracks. The gilding has been refreshed. One of the two is missing one of its four original seat rail reinforcements. Upholstered with different tapestry, one of which in particular is faded and yellowed, as visible from the catalogue photograph.
