Condition
This piece is in reasonable condition, with traces of minor old repairs. There are marks and scratches consistent with age and use as well as traces of old woodworm which appears to the no longer active, some discoloration and staining which would greatly benefit from cleaning and re-varnishing according to taste. The top appears to have been in contact with some water, hence the staining, and the ivory-inlaid coat of arms on it is in near-distressed condition. The coffer and three drawers all with their original locks, which are however missing their keys. The upper drawer opens with difficulty due to expansion of wood probably caused by humidity. The drawers lining is worn, faded and stained in places, as expected.
The right return with inventory label '468'.

Coffers on chest such as the present one were especially popular in Piedmont during the first half of the 18th century, and were usually intended as marriage chests. A closely related example, attributed to Luigi Prinotto, is illustrated in R. Antonetto, op. cit., p. 128, no. 23.
