Condition
The support is constructed of several pieces of canvas and has been relined. There are seams visible along which there are some visible retouchings although these are not distracting to the naked eye. The paint surface is dirty with some accretions. The varnish is slightly discoloured, dull and uneven. There are some losses and scuffs at the outer margins from frame abrasion. There are a handful of tiny paint losses in the face of the sitter and throughout. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals small retouchings to these losses and other scattered areas of localised retouchings throughout, along with lines of retouching to the aforementioned seams. For a canvas this size, in overall very good condition. Offered in a gilt wood frame.
