Description

  • A papal gold and lapis lazuli rosary, Italian, circa 1840-1860

  • 54cm., 21 1/4 in long, case: 21.5cm x 10.5cm., 4 1/8 in x ., 8 1/2 in
terminating with gold thread and a lapis lazuli medallion carved with the Virgin Mary on one side, Christ on the other, unmarked, in a red leather case with gilt tooled coat of arms of Pope Pius IX

Condition

Lapis lazuli of dark blue, with typical inclusions visible to the naked eye, abrasions to surfaces consistent with age and wear. Gold lace tassel, beads have been lacquered and would benefit from professional cleaning and re-stringing as thread is fragile. Accompanied by fitted case with some wear and losses.
