Description
- Scipione Pulzone
- Portrait of a noble lady
- oil on poplar panel
Provenance
Professor Baldi (?), 31 Via Quattro Venti, Rome, April 1979, as Pulzone, as a portrait of Bianca Cappello (according to a label on the reverse).
Condition
The poplar panel has two horizontal support batons adhered to the reverse running along the top and bottom edges. The panel is constructed of two planks with the join running vertically the length of the panel one third from the right margin. The panel and paint surface are secure and stable. The paint surface is dirty with a thick and discoloured varnish. There are no major damages visible to the naked eye only some scattered discolured old retouchings. There is a distinctive craquelure in parts, most visible in the flesh tones. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals very little - the thick and uneven varnished fluoresces opaque making any earlier restoration hard to make out.
Offered in a painted black and gilt carved wood frame in fair condition.
