Provenance

James Broun-Ramsay, 1st Marquess of Dalhousie (1812-60) before 1861;
Lady Susan Georgiana Broun Bourke (1837-98), by whom brought to Colstoun House, Haddington (according to an old handwritten label on the reverse);
Thence by descent.

Condition

The small panel is uncradled, flat and stable. The paint surface appears in good overall condition with no major damages. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals some very old sensitively executed scattered retouchings throughout. The face and collar, however have had very little intervention indeed. The painting is in good overall condition. Offered in a gilt wood frame in fair condition.
