Condition

Unexamined out of the frame. The work consists of two sheets of card, which have been laid down onto two larger pieces of card, which in turn have been affixed to a backing card. The sheets of card appear sound. There is some rounding and slight wear to the edges of the card in places. There are a few scattered tiny spots of loss, most visible to the right sheet of card. There are two spots of staining apparent in the lower right corner of the work, and a very tiny further spot of staining to one of the chair legs in the left part of the work, and there are a couple of instances of minor studio detritus. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in very good overall condition. The work is float mounted and presented in a painted wooden frame, held under glass. Catalogue Note

‘Apart from his radiant gifts as a colourist Ceri Richards is also an exceptionally rare draughtsman. In his best work … these two attributes combine together with singular power and persuasiveness.’
