Condition
Unexamined out of frame. The sheet is slightly undulating in places, in keeping with the artist's materials and technique. There are three very small tears along the lower horizontal edge, to the lower left corner, to the lower centre, and to the lower right corner. In the lower left corner, there are some associated creases. Along the left vertical edge and in the upper left corner, there are two further creases. There is some craquelure in the gouache to the left vertical edge, near the centre, and some very small associated paint losses. There is some areas of loss around the winch in the upper left quadrant. There are some specks of studio detritus, especially to the upper right corner. Subject to the above, the work is in overall good condition.
The work is window mounted in a simple ebonised wooden frame, and held behind glass.

Catalogue Note
The present work is related to Press for Making Shells (1941, Manchester City Galleries) however, it most probably dates from a second series of blast furnaces and steel foundries, made in 1944 at Woolwich Arsenal.
