Condition

The sheet is adhered to a window mount along the upper edge but is not laid down. There are artist's pinholes around the extreme edges of the sheet, none of which are visible in the present mount. There is a very small hole in the sheet in the upper right corner. There is some very minor undulation at the top of the sheet, largely only visible upon close inspection. There is some slight time staining to the sheet, most visible in the upper right corner and along the right edge, and along the upper edge in the upper left corner, where the sheet has slipped in its mount. The blue tone in the sky has possibly faded over time. Otherwise the rest of the tones have retained a fresh and immediate quality. To the unseen margins there are traces of staining and surface dirt including to the aforementioned pinholes. There is one small crease along the left edge, and one small crease in the centre of the sea; both of these are only visible upon extremely close inspection. There are a small number of possible instances of minor foxing visible in the sky. Subject to the above the work appears to be in overall very good condition. The work is window mounted and held behind glass in a gilt wood frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
