Provenance

Waddington Galleries, London, where acquired by Paul Bevan in the early 1970s
Bequeathed from the above to the present owner

Condition

The paper is fully laid down on to the card backing. The right edge has been unevenly cut, in keeping with the artist's technique. There is a vertical crease running along the left edge, roughly three centimetres from the margin, which has caused some associated fine cracking in the paint in the lower half of the work. There are old and minor tears to the left edge near the centre, and to the upper edge, towards the right corner. There are a number of creases throughout in keeping with the artist's technique and medium. There are two very tiny losses towards the right edge. The paper has slightly lifted in the left lower corner. There are some handling marks to the edges. There is some light surface dirt, and some evidence of studio matter. This excepting, the work appears to be in overall good condition. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of retouching or fluorescence. The work is float mounted within a canvas mount, held behind glass in a simple wooden frame.
