Condition

The canvas is original and is unstretched. The canvas is attached to the back board with three tabs along the top edge. The canvas undulates in a few places, but otherwise appears sound. There is some minor frame abrasion along the edges with some very minor associated specks of loss, not visible when framed. There are some very fine lines of craquelure, including to the extreme edges (not visible when framed), to the lower right corner, and to the centre of the vertical element. There are a few specks of studio detritus to the work in places. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in overall very good condition. Inspection under UV light reveals a milky, uneven varnish making the surface difficult to read. The work is presented in a simple gilt wooden frame with a linen rebate.
