Provenance

Gimpel Fils, London, where acquired by the family of the present owner in May 1962

Condition

The sheet is attached to the mount with adhesive tape along the upper edge. The sheet undulates slightly in places, and there is a slight crease apparent to the upper left corner of the sheet, but otherwise it appears sound. The edges of the sheet are deckled, and there is evidence of Artist's pinholes to the corners. There is a slight crease apparent to the sheet at the centre of the right vertical edge. There is an extremely minor scuff near the centre of the left vertical edge, and just to the left of this, the watermark of the paper is visible. When viewed out of the frame, it is apparent that there is some fading to the pigments, as well as some discolouration to the sheet, as visible by the edges under the current mount. There are one or two tiny traces of studio detritus apparent to the work. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in very good overall condition. The work is window mounted and presented in a gilded frame with a fabric-covered mount, held under glass.
