Condition

This work is in good overall condition as viewed. There is some very light craquelure on the work's surface, but this is only visible upon close inspection and it is consistent with the age of the work. There are some very minor areas of paint loss and flaking at the bottom left quadrant. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals a very small spot of restoration on the steps leading to the temple, one very small spot of restoration at the bottom edge, one very small spot of restoration at the left edge, and a small area of restoration between the two men on the lower left corner. Framed.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Catalogue Note

From 1984 until 1989, D. Hamel was the first art dealer interested in promoting the work of Arie Smit. In fact, he acquired almost all the works within the artist’s opus that were produced during that period.

After Hamel published the lithograph “The Blue Boy” (limited edition 99) at the renowned Atelier Jack Renaud in Paris in 1985, Smit was so pleased with the result that he painted the present lot as a token of appreciation to Hamel, even inscribing a dedication on the reverse of the canvas.
