Condition

This work is in good overall condition as viewed. There is extremely light craquelure to areas of thinner impasto, only visible upon very close inspection, but this is very stable and consistent with the medium and age of the work. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals very tiny and minor areas of restoration on the work. Framed.

Catalogue Note

“In painting, once you’ve attained competence in various aspects, oil painting becomes your foundation. So you can express your own view in an oil painting. When it isn’t right, you can make amendments. In this way, the painting can be brought to maximum perfection. It’s like that in most cases, but not all. Some people were good with watercolours, but in most cases they produced very good oil paintings too.” -Chen Wen Hsi1
