Joan V. Bondurant (1918–2006) was an American political scientist who lived in India from 1944 – 1951 working for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) during World War II. Life in India instilled in her both a love of the country and a fascination with the work of Mahatma Gandhi. Her work came to the attention of India’s foremost leaders, including the country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who wrote the foreword to Dr. Bondurant’s influential book, Conquest of Violence: The Gandhian Philosophy of Conflict, a classic in its field.

Condition
Creasing notable in the corners and along the left and right edges with a small loss on the top left corner. Two pin-sized holes, on upper center edge (above figure's hand) and bottom left (on Krishna's foot). There is microscopic hairline craquelere in the cows on the right. Scattered spots of discoloration discernible on the bottom right edge, the body of the two cows on the left and minor areas in the background, only visible upon close inspection. Very minute spots of intermittent loss such as the flower and foot of the cow on the left and in areas of green pigment, also visible only upon very close scrutiny. This work has not inspected outside its frame.
