Condition
The illustration is accurate. Good overall condition. There was a protecting panel (bronze or glass) at the reverse of the bottom. Quality of the chasing and the gilding is consistent with the work of Saint Germain.
The mechanism : Dial is in good condition but is loose in the case. Bell striking movement with star-cut and numbered outside count wheel, tic-tac escapement with silk suspension, sign on the backplate Etienne Le Noir A Paris; it is complete and just running at time of cataloguing but needs a clean and service. A small glass missing under the dial. No pendulum, no winder.

Jean-Joseph de Saint-Germain
Elu maître fondeur en terre et en sable le 15 juillet 1748, Saint-Germain (1719-1791) jouissait du privilège de l’ouvrier libre, qui lui permettait d’être aussi bien bronzier qu’ébéniste. Il fournissait des caisses de pendules aux meilleurs horlogers de son époque : Etienne Lenoir, Julien Le Roy et Jean-Philippe Gosselin. Saint-Germain était aussi célèbre à son époque pour son cabinet de curiosités et sa passion pour la botanique, thèmes que l’on retrouve dans sa production.
