Catalogue Note
A remarkable volume of letters mostly by Princess Charlotte of Belgium (1840-1927), the youngest child of Leopold I of Belgium, and later the wife of the ill-fated Maximilian I of Mexico. The letters provide a remarkable insight into the Princess's life and mental state, before and after the harrowing execution of Maximilian I in 1867.
