Catalogue Note
Peckham's treatise on optics was based on the work of Ibn Al-Haytham as well as Euclid, St Augustine and Maimonides. It was written in about the 1270s and proved very influential; the first printed edition appeared in around 1482 in Milan, and it was republished twice in 1504.
A rare edition, taken from the Venice 1504 Sessa edition prepared by Gaurico, down to the close copying of the title-page woodcut and the marginal woodcuts.
