Catalogue Note

The third work contains an account of the Earl of Castlemaine's embassy to Rome in 1687, on behalf of James II, who wished to return England to the Catholic Church. Castlemaine spent nine months making preparations for his elaborate public entry; Wright was a portraitist who assisted Castlemaine in his endeavours.
