Catalogue Note

First edition of Remington's first book, recounting his travels as an illustrator in the American West. Presentation copy, inscribed to General Nelson Miles, one of the army's principal commanders during the Trans-Mississippi Indian Wars: "To Maj. Gen'l. Nelson A. Miles from Frederic Remington In memory of many long miles—some rather cold nights and warm days with a few tin-cups full of 'How!'" Presentation copies of this title are very uncommon.
