Catalogue Note

At work on "The Bridge". "Am living out in the country again for a year — writing on my poem, 'The Bridge'. Otto M. Kahn has given me $2000 with which to do it and I'm happy as a lark. Write me c/o Mrs. Turner, Patterson, Putnam Co., New York. Love to you both, Hart."

On 6 December 1925, Crane received a stipend from Otto Kahn, which allowed him to work undisturbed on his masterpiece, "The Bridge." Bert Ginther was a Cleveland friend whom Crane had first met in 1921.  Ginther saw Crane when the latter was in Cleveland in August and early September 1925.
