Catalogue Note

A manuscript leaf from The Oak Openings; or, the Bee-Hunter (1848), the last of Fennimore Cooper's wilderness novels. This novel of professional honey-hunting is set in Michigan's Oak Openings, around Kalamazoo. In the 1830's Cooper made an investment in real estate in the region, which proved to be unsuccessful.
