Condition

Overall very good condition. The shade with approximately 45 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout the lower peony border, which is a relatively low number in proportion to the vast number of glass tiles (approximately 2,000) required to execute this complex and monumental shade. The shade with light surface soiling concentrated to the contours adjacent to the shade leading. The patinated bronze base is in very good condition and displays with a particularly deep and rich green and russet brown patina. The base with occasional light surface scratches and abrasions, and some minor surface soiling and oxidation concentrated to the recessed contours of the design consistent with age and gentle handling. One foot with a small area of patina loss measuring 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches. All sockets and paddle switches appear original and undisturbed. With a period “Pig Tail” finial in very good condition with scattered surface scratches, abrasions, areas of oxidation and a small concentrated area of wear and a surface stain measuring 1/4 x 1 inch just above the lower edge. A striking example of this impressive floral shade design with a highly artistic and nuanced glass selection within the peony border. When viewed in person the shade displays with intensely saturated ruby reds, magentas, and soft pinks to articulate the peony blossoms. The upper register of the shade is executed with a dramatic and complementary palette of striated turquoise blue and rich maroon-red glass. The lamp displays beautifully in person with strong visual presence.
