Description

  • Carlo Grubacs
  • Saint Mark's Square, Venice
  • oil on canvas

Provenance

Anonymous sale, South Kensington, Christie's, 28 April 2010, lot 301 (as "Circle of Giuseppe V. Canella").

Condition

Canvas appears to be unlined. Overall there is very good retention of the paint surface and very nice detail in architecture and figures. There are some old restorations visible to naked eye at upper right corner, and along parts of the left edge. Under UV light: apart from a small retouched area on the left dome, the architecture looks good; there are a few cosmetic retouches on some of the figures. In a black wood frame with gilt inner rim.
