Description

  • Saint George and the dragon
  • polychrome wood
  • Austrian, Tyrol, second half 15th century

Condition

Standard surface abrasions and small losses throughout with some worming. There are age cracks with some stabilization and some restoration. Restorations include: front half of proper right foot of Saint, some fingers on both figures, probably the lower proper right leg and portion of foot and tail of dragon, and perhaps the Saint's nose. Flaking polychromy with some refreshed areas and some traces of early paint. Wings lacking. Lance and base later. Charming and well carved. Would benefit from cleaning.
