  • Amsterdam, a view of the Binnen Amstel looking north
  • oil on canvas

Exhibited

Venice, Ca' Rezzonico, Pietro Bellotti, un altro Canaletto, 7 December 2013 - 28 April 2014, no. 32.

Literature

C. Beddington and D. Crivellari (eds), Pietro Bellotti, un altro Canaletto, Verona 2013, p. 69, cat. no. 32, reproduced in color p. 119, fig. 32.

Condition

The canvas has been thinly relined. The painting is clean and presentable as is. The paint surface has been slightly pressed in the relining and is a bit thin in some of the browns. Overall, the p painting reads well. Under UV light: there are numerous retouches in the sky. Some of these are quite small and scattered while there are larger concentrations of retouching at the far right and left sides. There appears to be a possible small repaired tear in sky at far middle right side. There is a horizontal line of retouching that runs across lower sky just above the tops of the buildings. The foreground and architecture looks fine with only a few cosmetic retouches here and there. Offered in a carved and gilt wood frame.
